In what cases should I apply for a Transit Visa?
When traveling to another country, you may need to transit through Canada. Anyone planning to transit through Canada must obtain a Canadian Transit Visa. When applying for a Canada Transit Visa, your passport type, citizenship, and how you plan to travel to Canada are important. A transit visa is an official document that we include in your passport. This indicates that you meet the transit requirements of up to 48 hours through a Canadian airport.
Canada Transit Visa can be issued as 1 or 2 entries depending on your travel plans. You must use the Transit Visa before the time stated on it. Sometimes travelers find it difficult to determine when a Transit Visa is needed. To clarify this, let's look at the situations in which a Visitor Visa and a Transit Visa are required.
Visitor Visa
You need a visitor visa if you are from a visa-required country:
• When you visit Canada (even if you are traveling by air and less than 48 hours)
• When you stay in Canada for more than 48 hours in transit
If you are from a visa-required country and are crossing the border by car, train, boat, bus, cruise ship, you must also apply for a visitor visa.
Transit Visa

• If you will connect between 2 international flights at a Canadian airport;
• If you will be transiting through Canada in 48 hours or less;
